Former NBR Chairman Tapped as Bangladesh’s World Bank Executive

Date:

The former chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), Abdur Rahman Khan, is expected to be designated as Bangladesh’s next executive director at the World Bank, according to a Ministry of Finance official who requested anonymity. The appointment proposal has reportedly received approval from the Prime Minister’s Office.

Currently, Sharifa Khan, the ex-senior secretary of the Economic Relations Division (ERD), holds the role. Abdur Rahman Khan’s appointment as NBR chairman took place in August 2024 under the interim government led by Dr. Muhammad Yunus, following the termination of his predecessor Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem’s contractual appointment.
