“Global Summit Calls for Secure and Reliable AI Technology”

Date:

Following a significant summit on artificial intelligence in New Delhi, a joint declaration signed by 86 countries, including the United States and China, called for the development of secure, reliable, and resilient AI technology. The document, released after the five-day AI Impact Summit, emphasized the importance of ensuring that the benefits of AI are shared globally.

The declaration acknowledged the transformative impact of generative AI on technological advancement and highlighted the necessity of advancing secure and trustworthy AI to build trust and maximize societal and economic advantages.

This summit, the fourth annual global gathering on AI, attracted top tech CEOs and thousands of attendees to discuss the potential societal benefits and challenges posed by AI, such as job displacement, online abuse, and the environmental impact of data centers.

While the summit did not result in concrete regulatory commitments, it underscored the need for a global approach to AI governance that supports innovation and entrepreneurship. The United States, a prominent player in the AI industry, emphasized its rejection of global AI governance but signed a bilateral agreement with India promoting a pro-innovation AI strategy.

The delayed release of the summit statement aimed to increase the number of signatories, reflecting a cautious approach towards AI safety risks, including misinformation, surveillance, and potential security threats. The declaration also emphasized the importance of reskilling programs for future AI-driven economies and the development of energy-efficient AI systems to address growing resource demands.
