The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has prolonged the deadline by one month for accepting proposals to produce full-length and short films under the government grant scheme for the 2025–26 fiscal year. Interested filmmakers now have until April 1 to submit their complete package proposals, as opposed to the previous deadline of March 1. This extension was confirmed by Mahfuza Akhter, the ministry’s Joint Secretary.
Previously, the ministry issued a notice calling for package proposals from various industry professionals, including producers, directors, filmmakers, writers, and institutions, to submit their story ideas and production plans. A total of 189 proposals for full-length films and 140 proposals for short films have been received in three phases.
Officials are optimistic that this will be the final deadline extension and do not plan to grant any further extensions. They anticipate receiving the targeted number of proposals for both film categories within the extended timeframe.
In a bid to support the growth of the film industry and foster talent and innovation, the ministry aims to allocate government grants to 32 films in the upcoming fiscal year, with a breakdown of up to 12 full-length films and 20 short films.
Applicants must provide a comprehensive package proposal, including one original copy and 12 sets for full-length films, with the same requirement applicable to short films.
With the extended deadline, industry experts foresee heightened competition for the grants. Filmmakers and producers are likely to utilize the additional time to craft more detailed and well-organized proposals, potentially enhancing the overall quality of submissions and making the selection process more competitive.
