“Grameenphone Reports Profit Growth Despite Revenue Dip”

Date:

Grameenphone has reported a rise in profits for the first quarter of 2026, despite a decrease in revenue. This improvement reflects the company’s strong focus on cost management and operational efficiency in a challenging economic environment.

The telecommunications operator recorded a total revenue of Tk 3,758 crore, showing a 2 percent decline compared to the previous year. However, its net profit increased by 4.4 percent year-on-year, reaching Tk 662 crore.

At the end of the quarter, Grameenphone had a subscriber base of 8.42 crore, with 58.4 percent (4.92 crore) being internet users. Data consumption per user rose to approximately 7.7 gigabytes, up by 5.4 percent year-on-year, while the number of active data users increased by 1.7 percent.

The company’s profitability was boosted by effective cost management strategies. Operating expenses decreased by 2 percent, and the cost of goods sold saw a notable drop of 7.3 percent.

Although EBITDA declined by 1.5 percent year-on-year, the decrease was less than the revenue drop, resulting in a solid EBITDA margin of around 58 percent.

Yasir Azman, the CEO of Grameenphone, expressed satisfaction with the company’s performance, highlighting their resilience and disciplined approach in maintaining a stable EBITDA margin.

Grameenphone is strategically investing in network infrastructure, IT systems, spectrum, and AI-driven initiatives to support future growth and enhance operational efficiency while upholding cost discipline.

The company is undergoing a transformation towards a digital-first operating model, with a focus on AI technology. The recent acquisition of 700 MHz spectrum is expected to improve rural coverage and indoor network experience, supporting increased data usage and digital inclusion efforts.

As the government accelerates digitalization initiatives, Grameenphone aims to play a key role in fostering a sustainable telecom ecosystem that drives national digital transformation.
