Instagram is currently experimenting with a new independent app named Instants, designed for users to post spontaneous, unaltered photos that vanish after 24 hours. This strategic move positions Instagram in closer competition with temporary-sharing platforms like Snapchat and BeReal.
The application is presently undergoing testing in Spain and Italy and is compatible with both iOS and Android devices. Instants enables users to effortlessly snap a photo using the built-in camera with a single tap. Uploading images from the device’s camera roll is not supported, and the app offers minimal editing options, allowing only text additions. These photos, termed “instants,” can be seen once and are accessible for 24 hours.
Participants have the option to share their content with mutual followers or individuals from their established Close Friends list, which is synchronized with the primary Instagram app. Instagram affirms that users can utilize Instants as a standalone application or integrate it as a feature within the primary Instagram platform.
