“Interim Govt Advisers and Spouses’ Wealth Changes Revealed”

Advisers and their spouses from the outgoing interim government have revealed their wealth statements, showcasing changes in their assets between June 30, 2024, and June 30, 2025.

The data indicates that the median wealth increase for the advisers and their spouses was six percent during this period. Notably, Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus reported an 11 percent rise, totaling Tk 1.6 crore, while his wife, Dr Afrozi Yunus, experienced a significant 40 percent decline in her financial assets.

Environment and information adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan saw her assets decrease by half, with a notable drop of Tk 1 crore in financial holdings, whereas her husband, Abu Bakar Siddique, reported no substantial change.

Health adviser Nurjahan Begum’s husband, KM Asaduzzaman, witnessed a 50 percent decrease in his wealth over the past year, primarily due to a decline of Tk 1.64 crore in financial assets, although his non-financial assets increased by Tk 14 lakh. Nurjahan’s assets remained relatively stable during the same period.

Land adviser Ali Imam Majumder experienced a halving of his non-financial assets, decreasing by Tk 11 lakh, while his financial assets increased by Tk 62.7 lakh, resulting in a total rise in holdings from Tk 3.37 crore to Tk 3.88 crore.

Former information adviser Mahfuj Alam’s assets surged from Tk 4.2 lakh to Tk 12.8 lakh during his tenure, and former sports adviser Asif Mahmud, who lacked a taxpayer identification number before joining the cabinet, exited with Tk 15.3 lakh in assets.

Adilur Rahman Khan, the adviser for local government, rural development, industries, and housing, reported a significant increase in his assets, more than doubling in value, mainly due to inherited properties. His wife, Dr Saira Rahman Khan, also noted a 12 percent rise.

Primary and mass education adviser Dr Bidhan Ranjan Roy and religious affairs adviser Dr AFM Khalid Hossain both experienced a one-third increase in their wealth. Dr Roy’s gains amounted to Tk 1.36 crore, while Dr Hossain saw his financial assets rise by Tk 25 lakh. Hossain’s wife, Kamrunnessa Hasina, reported a 40 percent rise as her non-financial assets grew by Tk 3.5 lakh.

Commerce and aviation adviser Sk Bashir Uddin’s wealth remained relatively stable, with a modest increase of Tk 54 lakh, adding to his existing worth of Tk 92 crore. Culture adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki’s wife, Nusrat Imrose Tisha, witnessed a significant jump in assets from Tk 1.4 crore to nearly Tk 3 crore.

Among the cabinet members, Sk Bashir Uddin ranks as the wealthiest, followed by planning adviser Dr Wahiduddin Mahmud and Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus. Dr Wahiduddin attributed his increase to a developer contract.

Comparatively, fisheries adviser Farida Akhtar emerges as the adviser with the least wealth, with a net worth of Tk 1 crore, excluding the two youth advisers.
