Oil export activities from Iran’s Kharg island in the Gulf continued without disruption on Saturday following US strikes on the crude export hub, which resulted in no casualties, confirmed a regional official. Ehsan Jahaniyan, deputy governor of Iran’s southern Bushehr province, stated that operations of oil companies at the export terminal were ongoing as usual, as reported by the IRNA news agency.
Earlier reports from the Fars news agency, citing sources on the island, indicated that there was no significant damage to oil facilities despite President Donald Trump’s announcement that the US strikes had targeted solely military installations.
President Trump had issued warnings of potential strikes on oil infrastructure on Kharg island, a pivotal point for Iran, in response to Iran’s actions in obstructing the strategic Strait of Hormuz. In retaliation, Iran had threatened to target US-affiliated oil facilities.
Deputy governor Jahaniyan assured that the attacks did not result in any harm to military personnel, company staff, or residents of Kharg island. He mentioned that the daily life and regular operations of the island’s inhabitants remained unaffected.
According to Fars reports, the US operation aimed to impact the army’s defenses, the Joshan naval base, the airport control tower, and the helicopter hangar of the Iran Continental Shelf Oil Company.
Kharg Island, located approximately 30 kilometers (19 miles) off the Iranian mainland in the northern Gulf, manages approximately 90 percent of Iran’s crude exports.
