Kolkata Knight Riders secured their first point in the 2026 IPL season after their match against Punjab Kings ended in a no-result with only 22 deliveries bowled, marking the first such instance in the tournament. The match was halted due to rain at the Eden Gardens stadium with Kolkata struggling at 25-2 after 3.4 overs, following defeats in their previous two games against Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Despite a delayed start, the rain persisted until 40 minutes before the cut-off time of 11:14 pm, leaving insufficient time to prepare for a shortened five-over match. Punjab Kings, remaining undefeated, reclaimed the top spot in the league standings with five points from three matches, while Kolkata Knight Riders managed to open their account in the tournament, albeit without their key spin bowlers, Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine, who were unavailable due to injury and illness, respectively.
Opting to bat first, Punjab Kings’ decision backfired as opening batsmen Finn Allen and Cameron Green fell to Xavier Bartlett’s bowling in quick succession. However, the rain arrived soon after, leading to both teams sharing the points as the match was abandoned.
