Meta has introduced paid subscription tiers for Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp on a global scale to broaden its revenue streams beyond advertising and unite its array of subscription offerings under the unified Meta One brand.
The new plans, namely Instagram Plus at $3.99 per month, Facebook Plus at $3.99 per month, and WhatsApp Plus at $2.99 per month, provide users with enhanced features such as customized profiles, super reactions, and insights into stories. Naomi Gleit, Meta’s product head, mentioned that additional functionalities will be incorporated into these plans progressively.
Instagram Plus focuses on enhancing audience engagement and content management. Subscribers can track the number of Story replays, create multiple audience lists, showcase a Story for increased views weekly, extend Story duration, and preview Stories anonymously. Moreover, users can post directly to their profile and highlights without notifying followers. The plan also offers animated Super Heart reactions, customizable app icons, and diverse font choices for profile bios.
Facebook Plus mirrors Instagram Plus features, whereas WhatsApp Plus concentrates on personalization and messaging, offering themes, custom ringtones, more pinned chats, list customization, and premium stickers.
These new Plus plans complement Meta’s existing Meta Verified service, which concentrates on account verification, impersonation prevention, and elevated support. Meta has clarified that the Plus plans will coexist with Meta Verified for the time being.
In conjunction with the global rollout of the Plus plans, Meta has disclosed plans to trial AI-centered subscriptions under the Meta One umbrella, starting next month in select regions like Singapore, Guatemala, and Bolivia. The Meta One Plus at $7.99 per month and Meta One Premium at $19.99 per month will offer similar features, with the Premium tier providing advanced capabilities for complex tasks, such as enhanced reasoning and improved video and image generation across Meta’s platforms. The AI services will remain free for casual users, with future expansions to benefit AI glasses users.
Moreover, Meta will commence testing two additional plans targeting creators and businesses in markets like Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Thailand, and Bangladesh later this week. The Meta One Essential plan at $14.99 per month will provide a verified badge, impersonation protection, and an enhanced link sheet to direct audiences to a creator’s online presence. The Meta One Advanced plan priced at $49.99 per month will offer increased visibility features like placement in Facebook feeds, higher search result rankings on Facebook and Instagram, a prominent Follow button on Reels, and automatic follow requests for engaged users. Advanced subscribers can also add links to Instagram posts and Reels, access in-depth analytics on Instagram, and utilize optimized scheduling and account management tools.
Meta has confirmed that the AI and professional plans are in the experimental phase but is working towards consolidating all subscription services under the Meta One brand for continued development and expansion.
The introduction of these subscription plans follows Meta’s first-quarter 2026 earnings report, showing a 54% year-on-year revenue growth to $801 million, primarily driven by WhatsApp’s business messaging activities. With Meta’s primary social platforms nearing global saturation, the move towards subscriptions signifies a strategic shift to generate additional revenue from existing users rather than solely relying on audience expansion.
