After spending almost a decade working abroad, Habi Paik met a tragic end last week in Iraq due to a missile strike, leaving his family in Munshiganj devastated. His wife, Khadija Akter, received the heartbreaking news through a phone call from a colleague, delivering the devastating blow to the entire family.
Confirming the tragic incident, Habi’s 35-year-old younger brother, Firoz Paik, disclosed that they were informed on Monday by the colleague about Habi’s death in the missile attack on Saturday.
With his unfortunate passing, Habi left behind two daughters, Alisha, 14, and Habiba, 8, who now face an uncertain future.
Expressing their desperate plea, Firoz urged the government to repatriate his brother’s body and provide financial assistance for the two daughters.
Emphasizing the plea once more, Habi’s mother, Lucky Begum, tearfully expressed, “I have not seen my son for 10 years. I just want to see him one last time.” His father, Noli Mia Paik, echoed the sentiment.
The Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Munshiganj Sadar, Md Masudur Rahman, stated that the local administration has offered Tk 25,000 to the family and assured them of assistance in bringing back Habi’s body and arranging support from the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment.
