“Uber Expands Collaboration with AWS Using Custom Chips for Real-Time Ride Matching”

Date:

Uber and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have announced an expansion in their collaboration, with Uber utilizing AWS’s custom chips for enhancing real-time ride matching and AI model training. The ride-sharing company is incorporating AWS Graviton4 processors to power its Trip Serving Zones, the infrastructure responsible for connecting riders with drivers instantaneously. This deployment aims to improve efficiency by reducing energy consumption and efficiently handling peak demand periods such as rush hours and major events.

Moreover, Uber has initiated a pilot program using Trainium3 chips to enhance AI models that analyze extensive ride data to optimize arrival time predictions, driver allocations, and personalized suggestions. This move signifies a deepening of the existing cloud partnership between the two companies. Amazon’s significant investment in custom chip technology aligns with the escalating need for AI training and inference solutions among enterprise clients.
