Ubuntu, the open-source operating system, experienced service disruptions due to a significant cyberattack that commenced on April 30, impacting crucial systems relied upon by users globally.
Furthermore, Canonical, the entity responsible for the development and upkeep of the OS, was also targeted in the incident.
Canonical released a statement on its website acknowledging a continuous multinational assault on its infrastructure and stated that measures were being taken to address the disruption. The company mentioned that forthcoming updates would be communicated through official channels.
Vecert Analyzer, a threat intelligence platform, reported that a group called “The Islamic Cyber Resistance in Iraq 313 Team” claimed ownership of the attack. The assault is suspected to be a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack, a method that overwhelms servers by inundating them with substantial amounts of unauthorized traffic.
