Zelensky Criticizes Putin’s Warfare Tactics

Date:

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky criticized Russia’s President Vladimir Putin as being entrenched in warfare during his speech at the Munich Security Conference on Saturday. Zelensky highlighted the extensive damage caused by Russia’s assaults on all power plants across Ukraine.

Drawing historical parallels, Zelensky likened the current negotiations between Russia and Ukraine to the 1938 Munich Agreement, where Hitler coerced territorial concessions from European powers just before the outbreak of World War II.

In a separate development, Ukrainian drones reportedly caused a fire at an oil depot in Russia’s Krasnodar region as confirmed by Russian authorities.

As the fourth anniversary of Moscow’s invasion approaches, which has resulted in significant casualties, extensive destruction in eastern Ukraine, and mass displacements, Zelensky emphasized that Russia’s attacks have deliberately targeted Ukraine’s energy infrastructure to paralyze the population.

Despite the widespread damage inflicted on Ukraine’s power plants by Russian attacks, Zelensky commended the tireless efforts of thousands of workers engaged in repairing them to ensure electricity generation continues.

Zelensky reiterated the urgent need for Western allies to expedite the delivery of air-defense systems to Ukraine.

Referring to Putin, who initiated the conflict in February 2022, Zelensky characterized him as someone who fancies himself a ruler but is truly bound by the constraints of war.

Upcoming US-mediated discussions between Russia and Ukraine were announced, with Zelensky affirming Kyiv’s commitment to exhaust all efforts to bring an end to the conflict. Additionally, Zelensky held discussions with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on the sidelines of the Munich conference.

Russia’s demands for Ukraine to vacate the Donetsk region and acknowledge its control over occupied Ukrainian territories have been met with resistance from Kyiv, which has refused to cede its eastern lands.
