Global music sensation Bad Bunny is gearing up for his inaugural starring role in a major Hollywood film. The renowned Puerto Rican artist is set to headline the historical drama “Porto Rico,” signaling a significant foray from music into the world of cinema.
Described as a homage to Puerto Rico’s rich history and cultural heritage, the movie will feature Bad Bunny, also known as Benito Antonio, sharing the screen with Javier Bardem, Edward Norton, and Viggo Mortensen. The film will be helmed by Puerto Rican rapper Residente, with acclaimed filmmaker Alejandro G Iñárritu on board as executive producer.
Initial reports suggest that “Porto Rico” has been in the works since 2023. The storyline draws inspiration from the life of José Maldonado Román, alias Águila Blanca (White Eagle), a key revolutionary figure who led movements against Spanish colonial dominance in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Director Residente has described the project as deeply personal, emphasizing its role in celebrating Puerto Rican identity. He envisions the film as a poignant portrayal of the country’s history, intending to offer an authentic and powerful narrative that resonates with audiences.
Edward Norton, part of the star-studded cast, likened the film to classic cinematic epics, anticipating a blend of grand historical drama and intricate political undertones.
