At least four individuals lost their lives, and over 30 sustained injuries following a head-on collision between two buses on the Dhaka-Pabna highway in the Sholabaria area of Pabna’s Santhia upazila earlier today. According to Md Mostafizur Rahman, the officer-in-charge of the Madhpur Highway Police Station, two individuals, a driver, and a helper died at the scene, while two others passed away at the hospital.
The deceased have been identified as Md Kamal Hossain, aged 40, the driver of Shahzadpur Travels; Mehedi Hasan, aged 28, the helper of Maasranga Paribahan; Alef Uddin, aged 35; and Alomgir Hossain, aged 36.
The tragic incident occurred at approximately 7:30 am near the Sholabaria bridge when a Dhaka-bound Shahzadpur Travels bus collided with a Pabna-bound Maasranga Paribahan bus due to both drivers losing control of their vehicles.
Dr. Rafikul Islam, the assistant director of Pabna General Hospital, mentioned that 32 injured passengers were admitted to the hospital, with six of them being transferred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
Following the accident, police and firefighters promptly responded to the scene to rescue victims and clear the debris. Normal traffic operations resumed after a one-hour suspension.
