After the meeting between the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) and the rebellious clubs to discuss the club crisis and possible start date for the Dhaka Premier League (DPL), it seemed like a resolution was in sight. However, it appears that there are still some unresolved matters.
Out of the 12 DPL clubs, Legends of Rupganj and Brothers Union did not participate in the meeting where a potential start date in the first week of May was proposed.
Rupganj’s representative, Lutfar Rahman Badal, expressed concerns about rushing into the league without adequate preparation, citing the need to consider various factors before making a decision. On the other hand, Brothers Union officials have not clarified their position on the matter yet.
Badal questioned the sudden scheduling of the league and emphasized the importance of proper planning and policy-making within the cricket board. He highlighted a lack of strategic decision-making in previous boards and criticized the trend of hastily organizing leagues.
While a representative from Brothers Union stated that the club’s decision would be communicated to the board, CCDM officials stated they were unaware of any clubs expressing unwillingness to participate.
Contrary to concerns raised, Mohammedan representative Ziaur Rahman Topu reassured that the league was not starting hastily, with ample time for preparations before the scheduled start.
A.R Mallick from Dhanmondi Sports Club mentioned that there were discussions about starting the league in April but postponed it due to the New Zealand T20Is, ensuring a suitable timeframe post the series.
Regarding past events, it was revealed that Badal had abstained from last year’s Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) election due to alleged irregularities. Sources also suggested that Rupganj had terminated contracts with players and officials for the current season.
Although the removal of the previous board led by Bulbul was expected to resolve the club crisis, it appears that additional issues need addressing before proceeding with the DPL.
