Indian filmmaker and politician Bratya Basu has shown interest in uniting Bangladeshi actors Mosharraf Karim and Chanchal Chowdhury for an upcoming film project.
Basu, who previously worked with Mosharraf Karim on “Dictionary” and “Hubba,” has recently wrapped up filming for “Shekhor,” featuring Chanchal Chowdhury. Chanchal mentioned that the director is keen on bringing both actors together for a single movie and might even share the screen with them.
During the shooting of “Bonolota Express,” where Chanchal reunited with Mosharraf Karim, discussions about this potential collaboration arose. The duo initially appeared together in the film “Television,” directed by Mostofa Sarwar Farooki. After a significant hiatus, they are set to reunite in “Bonolota Express,” helmed by Tanim Noor, slated for release this Eid-ul-Fitr.
Chanchal disclosed in an interview that Basu not only intends to direct the two actors but also act alongside them in the same venture.
Based on short stories by renowned Bengali author Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay, “Shekhor” includes a cast comprising Loknath Dey, Seema Biswas, Ambarish Bhattacharya, Riddhi Sen, Angana Roy, and Anasuya Majumdar.
Apart from his acting endeavors, Chanchal Chowdhury has ventured into playback singing in “Shekhor,” lending his voice to reimagined Baul songs like Bijoy Sarkar’s “Ei Prithibi Jemon Ache Temni Thik Robe” and Gosto Gopal Das’s “O Jibon Re Chhariya Na Jao More.” He mentioned suggesting the incorporation of these songs into the film.
While cultural exchanges between Bangladesh and West Bengal have flourished in recent times, Chanchal pointed out a slowdown in collaborations following political shifts in 2024. Stressing the significance of joint initiatives in expanding Bengali cinema globally, he highlighted the vast potential of the Bengali content market and the benefits of large-scale cross-border productions.
Chanchal emphasized, “Bengali content has a global appeal. To tap into that audience, we should collaborate,” underscoring the immense opportunities for growth in the Bengali film industry through collaborative efforts.
