“Eid Card Revival: Handmade Treasures Brighten Dhaka Celebrations”

Date:

Eid-ul-Fitr in Bangladesh is a time of vibrant colors and festive anticipation. As the holy month of Ramadan nears its end, the streets of Dhaka come alive with celebrations. Shops brim with sparkling bangles, henna cones, and new clothes hanging under twinkling lights.

This year, the city has seen a surge in Ramadan fairs and pop-up markets, enhancing the festive atmosphere. The air is filled with excitement, laughter, and a sense of urgency as people prepare for the upcoming celebrations.

Amidst these familiar traditions, a nostalgic element is making a quiet resurgence: Eid cards.

Eid cards were once an essential part of the festive season, symbolizing affection and thoughtfulness. From carefully selecting the perfect card at roadside stalls to writing heartfelt messages with colored pens, exchanging Eid cards was a cherished ritual from 2000 to 2015.

However, with the rise of mobile phones, the tradition of sending Eid cards gradually faded. Quick, forgettable greetings replaced the heartfelt sentiments expressed through handwritten cards.

This year, there is a noticeable revival of Eid cards in the city. Students have set up small stalls after iftar, offering handmade cards with personal touches. Each card is unique, crafted with care and creativity.

Customers of all ages are drawn to these handmade Eid cards, finding them more meaningful than digital messages. The cards evoke memories of the past and carry a sense of authenticity that cannot be replicated by instant communication.

In a digital age dominated by fast exchanges, these Eid cards are reclaiming a special place in people’s hearts. They may be slower and less efficient, but their ability to convey time, intention, and lasting memories sets them apart from instant messages.
