A raid conducted by a mobile court at Abdul Ali Filling Station in Konabari, Gazipur, resulted in the confiscation of 33,900 liters of illegally stored fuel on Monday night. Following the operation at around 10:00 pm, the owner and manager of the station were handed one-month jail sentences, although their identities were not disclosed.
Gazipur Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Md Nurul Karim Bhuiyan verified the crackdown, which was executed with the assistance of BGB and police forces. Despite the station’s public notice stating a lack of fuel supply, prior intelligence indicated hoarding activities. Subsequent inspection confirmed the suspicions, leading to immediate imprisonment orders by the mobile court.
The confiscated fuel will be auctioned off, and the proceeds will be directed to the government treasury. In a separate incident on the same night around 9:00 pm, motorcyclists staged a protest by blocking the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway near Maona Flyover in Sreepur, citing alleged shortages at Sterling Filling Station. Police investigations later revealed that the station indeed had no petrol or octane in inventory. The blockade was lifted at 9:35 pm, and traffic flow returned to normal.
