“Dr. Yunus Travels to London to Pass ‘July-August 2024 Trophy’ to Tarique Rahman”

Date:

Mir Shahe Alam, the State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development, and Co-operatives, revealed today that Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief adviser of the previous interim government, traveled to London to deliver the “trophy” of the July-August 2024 movement to Tarique Rahman and secure an election date.

These statements were made during his participation in the discussion on the president’s speech at the Jatiya Sangsad.

According to the state minister, the BNP possesses the trophies of three significant political movements in the country: the 1971 Liberation War, the 1990 mass uprising, and the July-August 2024 uprising.

He emphasized that all three trophies are housed within the BNP, highlighting the unique historical significance each movement holds for the party. Mir Shahe Alam noted that while the Awami League can claim ownership of the 1971 and 1990 movements, the BNP exclusively holds the rights to the July-August movement.

His remarks were met with objections from opposition members, prompting a brief intervention from Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad to maintain order and allow for a constructive discussion.

The state minister continued, asserting the BNP’s integral role in the July-August movement and emphasizing the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman during that period. He highlighted the significance of Dr. Muhammad Yunus’s trip to London to symbolically pass the trophy to Tarique Rahman and secure the election date.

By underscoring the notion of a singular captain leading the movement, Mir Shahe Alam implied the BNP’s central role in shaping the events of the July-August period.

In a further exchange with Speaker Hafiz Uddin, the state minister acknowledged the contributions of freedom fighters within the parliament, emphasizing the collective efforts that led to the establishment of the current political landscape.

He concluded by referencing past political alliances and movements, contrasting the continuity of his party’s engagement with what he perceived as the opposition’s selective emphasis on certain historical events to suit their narrative.

The state minister’s assertions prompted a response from opposition leader Shafiqur Rahman, who challenged the accuracy of the presented information and urged for a commitment to truthfulness in parliamentary discussions.

In response, Speaker Hafiz Uddin assured a thorough review of the speech, with a commitment to address any inaccuracies or inappropriate statements that may have been presented.
