“AI-Generated Celeb Deepfakes Exploit TikTok Users”

Date:

An investigation by Copyleaks, a company specializing in authentication, has revealed the exploitation of AI-generated videos featuring celebrities like Taylor Swift and Rihanna to promote deceptive services on TikTok.

According to Copyleaks’ recent findings, these videos manipulate images of celebrities within common media contexts such as interviews, red carpet events, and podcast-style settings, often using AI to alter authentic footage.

The deceptive content primarily advertises schemes promising rewards to viewers who participate by watching TikTok videos and providing feedback. Despite some videos displaying TikTok branding, users are led to external websites where personal information is solicited.

One example highlighted by Copyleaks involves an AI-generated Taylor Swift endorsing a service named “TikTok Pay,” while another features a fabricated Rihanna promoting a similar program that claims users can earn money through engagement with the content.

Moreover, Meta’s social media platforms, including Instagram and Facebook, are also facing a proliferation of scam advertisements, with the company’s oversight board acknowledging the challenges posed by deepfakes.

Notably, Taylor Swift has taken proactive steps by filing trademark applications in the U.S. to safeguard recordings of her voice, a strategic measure believed to mitigate the risks associated with AI-generated impersonation.
