Actress Nuton Criticizes Industry Neglect of Senior Artists

Date:

Renowned actress Nuton recently expressed her disappointment at the apparent disregard for senior artists in the entertainment industry, noting that many are overlooked even while they are still alive.

During a recent iftar event organized by the Bangladesh Film Artistes Association (BFAA), Nuton shared her sentiments with fellow colleagues, expressing joy at the reunion but also a sense of melancholy when asked about her well-being. She mentioned feeling neglected despite being present at occasional gatherings, where inquiries about her well-being were not followed up with continued support.

The actress disclosed that her husband, filmmaker Ruhul Amin Babul, had passed away in December. She revealed that she received minimal support or concern from industry peers during her period of mourning, lamenting the lack of outreach from her colleagues during such a challenging time.

Reflecting on her extensive 52-year career in the film industry, Nuton questioned the common trend where artists are only truly appreciated posthumously. She expressed frustration at the lack of acknowledgment and recognition while artists are still alive, highlighting the irony of newspapers praising their contributions only after their demise.

Regarding her late husband, who was a prominent producer and director and a member of the James Group, Nuton emphasized his significant impact on the industry. She noted with disappointment that few colleagues visited him during his illness and the turnout at his funeral was limited.

Nuton urged the industry to value and recognize the efforts of artists, directors, and producers not just in retrospect but also during their lifetimes. She emphasized the importance of honoring contributions and showing support to industry veterans while they are still actively involved in the field.
