Australia’s pace bowler, Mitchell Starc, expressed his enduring passion for cricket and his desire to prolong his 16-year international career during an interview on Saturday. Starc, aged 36, who is Australia’s third-highest wicket-taker across all formats with 759 wickets, retired from Twenty20 internationals in September to focus on test matches and 50-over cricket, aiming to continue playing at the highest level for a few more years.
The upcoming ODI World Cup is set to take place in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia in October-November 2027. Starc, emphasizing his competitive spirit, highlighted the enjoyment he derives from the challenges of cricket, the camaraderie with his teammates, and the satisfaction of hard work and competition.
Despite managing minor elbow and shoulder issues, Starc mentioned that his body is coping well with the demands of international cricket. Reflecting on his career longevity and fitness, he expressed optimism about his ability to continue playing at a high level for a few more years.
Currently representing the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League, Starc is focused on his performances. He was recognized as the player of the series in Australia’s recent 4-1 Ashes triumph over England. Looking ahead to the 2027 World Cup, Starc expressed his ambition to participate in the prestigious tournament, highlighting it as a common aspiration for all cricketers.
