US and Canadian airlines have halted numerous flights to certain areas in Mexico due to escalating violence triggered by the assassination of a prominent drug lord. Leading US carriers such as Alaska, United, and Southwest, in addition to Canadian airlines WestJet and Air Canada, have declared the suspension of flights to destinations like Puerto Vallarta, Guadalajara, and Manzanillo.
