Middle East Film and TV Production Thrives Amid Iran Conflict

Date:

Film and TV production in the Middle East persists amidst the ongoing Iran conflict, as regional studios navigate logistical challenges without halting filming activities. Producers in Israel, Jordan, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia acknowledge security concerns, missile threats, and restricted airspace complicating operations. Nevertheless, they affirm that most productions are progressing, adapting to the unstable environment.

An Israeli television producer, speaking anonymously, mentioned filming amid air raid sirens during the conflict’s second week. In Israel, broadcaster Keshet briefly switched to continuous news coverage following the killing of Iran’s supreme leader on February 28, but later resumed its entertainment programs.

Despite the complexities brought by the conflict, production hubs in the region maintain their filming schedules. Olivewood Film Studios in Jordan, known for hosting international productions like “Dune: Part Two” and “John Wick: Chapter 4”, remains operational. The UAE and Saudi Arabia also report stable production activities, with minimal impact on the industry.

The conflict, now in its ninth day, sees ongoing military exchanges across the region. While disruptions to international air travel pose challenges for cross-border productions, industry observers anticipate critical weeks ahead as stakeholders evaluate risks. Amidst the crisis, Dana Blankstein Cohen from the Sam Spiegel Film and Television School in Jerusalem emphasizes the importance of storytelling and defending humanity through art, advocating for active pursuit of peace amid uncertainty.
