Foreign delegates visited Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Leader of the Opposition Dr. Shafiqur Rahman to offer their congratulations after his swearing-in ceremony today. The Jamaat’s central publicity department released a statement confirming that the foreign envoys had individual meetings with Shafiqur to convey their well-wishes on behalf of their respective governments.
Notable figures who met with Shafiqur included Tshering Tobgay, the Prime Minister of Bhutan; Seema Malhotra, the UK’s Minister for the Indo-Pacific; Vikram Misri, the Foreign Secretary of India; Berris Ekinci, Turkey’s Deputy Foreign Minister; Ahsan Iqbal, Pakistan’s Planning Minister; and Bala Nanda Sharma, Nepal’s Foreign Minister.
The press release mentioned that discussions during the meetings covered various topics of shared interest, in addition to the formal felicitations extended to Shafiqur for his new role. Also present at the meetings were Jamaat Nayeb-e-Ameer and lawmaker ATM Azharul Islam; Assistant Secretary General and Opposition Whip Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan; executive council member and lawmaker Saiful Alam Khan Milon; and the party chief’s foreign affairs advisor, Prof. Mahmudul Hasan.
