Mosaddek Hossain has earned an ODI call-up after performing exceptionally well in the ongoing Dhaka Premier League, where he has maintained an average of 77.5 and a strike rate of 129. After almost four years, the all-rounder is set to join Bangladesh’s squad for the first two ODIs against Australia.
In an interview with Abdullah Al Mehdi of The Daily Star, Mosaddek discussed the challenges of batting in the lower middle order and his experiences during the league matches.
When asked about his performance in the DPL, Mosaddek expressed his enjoyment and emphasized his focus on contributing to his team’s success while also keeping a check on his personal performance. He highlighted the importance of playing an aggressive style of cricket.
Regarding his role as a number seven batsman, Mosaddek acknowledged the difficulties associated with the position. He mentioned the pressure of either being a hero or a villain based on performance but expressed his desire to replicate his success at the domestic level for the benefit of Bangladesh cricket.
Reflecting on his exclusion from recent tournaments, Mosaddek chose not to dwell on the past and instead focused on proving himself through his performance. He credited mental support, particularly from Khaled Mahmud Sujon, for helping him bounce back after a challenging period.
Addressing his sporadic appearances in the national team, Mosaddek admitted that consistency can be a challenge for a lower-order batsman like himself. He stressed the importance of looking beyond mere statistics to evaluate his impact on the game.
Mosaddek also discussed the pressure of not being able to serve the team to the fullest extent due to inconsistent opportunities and the fear of being dropped after a single poor performance. He emphasized the significance of team support and freedom for players to perform at their best.
