Anthropic Raises $65B, Valuation Hits $965B

Date:

Anthropic recently secured $65 billion in funding during its Series H round, elevating the artificial intelligence firm’s post-money valuation to $965 billion as detailed in an official statement. This substantial milestone positions Anthropic ahead of its competitor OpenAI, which held a valuation of $852 billion in March, showcasing significant growth from its $380 billion valuation just a month prior.

The funding round was spearheaded by Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks, and Sequoia Capital, with Coatue and ICONIQ serving as co-leads. Noteworthy strategic partners such as Micron, Samsung, and SK hynix were also involved, with the total amount including $15 billion from previously committed hyperscaler investments, notably $5 billion from Amazon.

Anthropic disclosed a remarkable annualized revenue run rate surpassing $47 billion, credited to the increasing enterprise adoption of its Claude chatbot. Despite this success, the company faced challenges in meeting demand and recently implemented usage restrictions during peak hours while offering additional computing resources during off-peak times to alleviate pressure.

In a bid to expand its operational capacity, Anthropic sealed deals for up to five gigawatts of new cloud infrastructure with Amazon, five gigawatts of advanced TPU capacity with Google and Broadcom, and secured GPU access within SpaceX’s Colossus data centers.

The fundraising initiative aligns with Anthropic’s preparations for a potential public listing, as per insights from investors and banking sources cited by Reuters. While a company spokesperson refrained from commenting on the IPO timeline to Reuters, the soaring valuation underscores the keen interest from investors in cutting-edge AI enterprises.

Anthropic outlined intentions to leverage the fresh influx of capital to fuel safety research, enhance computing capabilities, and diversify its product portfolio, as highlighted in the official release.
