“Topu Barman’s Brace Makes History for Bangladesh in European Win”

Date:

Topu Barman, the experienced center-back, scored twice to lead Bangladesh to a historic 2-1 win over San Marino at the San Marino Stadium last night, marking a successful start for new coach Thomas Dooley.

This victory was significant on various levels as it marked Bangladesh’s maiden triumph against a European team, their first international match on European turf, and only their third encounter with a European side.

With strong support from Bangladeshi fans who had traveled from different parts of Europe, the red and green team made history in front of a nearly full stadium with a seating capacity of 5,000.

Dooley made notable decisions in his debut match as coach, including the return of Isa Faysal, Rafiqul Islam, and captain Jamal Bhuyan to the starting lineup, while Shamit Shome surprisingly started on the bench.

Despite San Marino dominating possession early on, Bangladesh took the lead in the 19th minute when Topu Barman headed in a cross from Sheikh Morsalin. The hosts equalized in the 31st minute through Nicolas Giacopetti after a cross from Filippo Berardi.

After halftime, Dooley made changes, bringing in Mohammad Sohel Rana, Shome, and Zayyan Ahmed. The alterations boosted Bangladesh’s attack, with Topu securing the win with a header in the 86th minute following a free-kick from Hamza Choudhury.

This victory was a cause for celebration for Bangladesh, ranked 181st globally, against a San Marino team ranked 211th, who were facing Asian opposition for the first time ever.
