Hollywood star Kate Winslet is reportedly in discussions to take on a role in the upcoming movie “The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum,” as per reports from US media outlets.
If final negotiations go through, Winslet is set to star alongside Andy Serkis, who will not only act in the film but also direct it, reprising his role as Gollum from the original “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy helmed by Peter Jackson.
While the official cast is yet to be confirmed by the production team, there are speculations that Elijah Wood and Ian McKellen might make a comeback. They are likely to revisit their characters as Frodo Baggins and Gandalf, respectively.
The movie will be produced by Jackson, with his frequent collaborators Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens also on board. The adaptation is based on the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. This project will mark a reunion between Winslet and Jackson, who previously collaborated on the 1994 film “Heavenly Creatures.”
Specifics about the plot remain under wraps, but sources suggest that the storyline will unfold between “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.” The film is anticipated to hit theaters on December 17, 2027.
