Former Bangladesh cricket team captain Mushfiqur Rahim has been recognized as the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for May for his significant role in Bangladesh’s remarkable Test series victory over Pakistan on home soil.
Mushfiqur clinched the award for the second time in his career, triumphing over his teammate Taijul Islam and Nepal’s all-rounder Dipendra Singh Airee. His stellar performance in the 2-0 Test series win earned him the Player of the Series title, amassing 235 runs at an impressive average of 63.25. The 39-year-old showcased his prowess with a crucial 71 in the first Test in Dhaka and a match-defining 137 in the second Test in Sylhet.
Having debuted in Test cricket in 2005, Mushfiqur once again demonstrated his enduring value to the national team with crucial contributions that led to one of Bangladesh’s most memorable Test victories.
Expressing his gratitude for the recognition, Mushfiqur stated, “It is a great honor to be named the ICC Player of the Month once again, and I am especially pleased that this recognition has come for my performances in Test cricket.”
He acknowledged his teammate Taijul’s significant role in the series win over Pakistan, emphasizing its importance for the team and their climb in the ICC World Test Championship standings. Mushfiqur thanked his teammates and support staff for their backing and expressed his eagerness to contribute further to Bangladesh’s success in the upcoming months.
In the women’s category, England’s seamer Lauren Bell secured the award for her outstanding performances during white-ball series against India and New Zealand. Bell outshone Pakistan’s Gull Feroza and New Zealand’s Maddy Green after claiming five wickets in three ODIs and eight wickets in four T20Is.
“I’m delighted to win this award,” Bell shared. “Performing well in front of home crowds is always fun and hugely satisfying. Playing for England is a huge honor and I am just proud to be able to contribute to our team.”
