“Bail Approved for Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Member”

Date:

A Bhola court has approved bail for Bibi Saoda, a member of the municipal unit of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, who was arrested for suspected anti-state activities on social media. Judicial Magistrate Saurav Roy Mithu issued the bail order, as confirmed by Sheikh Md Nasir Uddin, the inspector of Bhola court police.

Maulana Harun Or Rashid, the Secretary of Bhola Jamaat, verified Saoda’s political affiliation. Saoda was taken into custody on Sunday night from her residence in Bhola town by the district Detective Branch’s Cyber Crime Investigation Cell. She was presented before a court on Monday under Section 54 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

According to a complaint lodged by Sub-Inspector Md Jewel Hossain Khan of the Cyber Crime Investigation Cell, Saoda allegedly published Facebook posts criticizing the government and important state officials, including the prime minister and home minister. She is suspected of violating the Cyber Security Ordinance, 2025.

Law enforcement authorities mentioned that they will take further steps after examining her mobile phone and social media interactions. Jamaat leaders objected to her detention, asserting that she was apprehended without substantial evidence. Party Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman expressed worry in a social media post.

The Bhola district unit of Jamaat conducted a press briefing at its headquarters on Monday, during which a written declaration signed by district Ameer Muhammad Zakir Hossain was presented by Secretary Maulana Harun. The party officials at the event contended that Bibi Saoda, aged 37, was arrested without clear allegations. Additionally, they highlighted that Saoda has a three-year-old child who is dependent on her care.
