“Dhaka Police Crackdown on Road Obstructions”

Date:

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has urged government entities, private individuals, and organizations to clear construction materials and merchandise stored on roads and sidewalks in various parts of Dhaka.

In a public announcement today, the DMP highlighted that these practices are leading to traffic congestion and impeding pedestrian movement in the city.

The DMP recently observed a widespread issue of construction materials and other goods being haphazardly placed on roads and footpaths throughout Dhaka. This has resulted in traffic jams on the roads and disruptions to pedestrian flow.

According to the notice, these actions violate sections 67, 68, 72, and 102 of the DMP Ordinance, 1976, as well as section 31 and 82 of the Road Transport Act, 2018, and are subject to penalties.

The DMP emphasized that enforcement operations will be carried out in Dhaka city by executive magistrates and the DMP Traffic Division to curb these unauthorized practices.
