The country’s film industry experiences heightened activity during the annual Eid festivals, with filmmakers scrambling to secure coveted Eid release slots. Last year, a total of 12 films were released during the two Eids. This year, the number of films aiming for a release during Eid-ul-Fitr alone may exceed that figure, with around 16 films currently in the pipeline. Despite the commencement of Ramadan, promotional activities for most of these films are yet to kick off.
Shakib Khan continues to be a prominent figure in Eid discussions, starring as a 1990s gangster in “Prince: Once Upon a Time in Dhaka,” directed by Abu Hayat Mahmud. The film features Tasnia Farin from Bangladesh and Jyotirmoyee Kundu from West Bengal as his co-stars. Although filming is still in progress in India, the director has already announced an Eid release for the movie.
Adding to the lineup is Siam Ahmed with “Rakkhosh,” directed by Mehedi Hasan Hridoy and featuring Sushmita Chatterjee. The film was shot in both Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
Several other films have also been announced for Eid release, including titles such as Tanim Noor’s “Bonolota Express,” Zahid Jewel’s “Pinik,” Masud Hasan Ujjal’s “Bonolota Sen,” Rashid Polash’s “Rongbazar,” Raihan Khan’s “Tribunal,” and many more. With the industry facing ongoing challenges in securing cinema halls, the fate of these films in terms of theatrical release remains uncertain.
