“Russia Sharing Targeting Info with Iran Escalates US Conflict”

Date:

Russia has reportedly been sharing targeting information with Iran, revealing the locations of US warships and aircraft in the Middle East, according to a report by the Washington Post citing three officials familiar with the intelligence. The level of support provided by Russia to Iran remains unclear, but there are indications that Iran’s ability to pinpoint US forces has been compromised following recent strikes by the US and Israel against Tehran.

The conflict between the involved parties has escalated, leading to retaliatory actions by Iran and involving neighboring countries in the region as part of efforts to impose repercussions on the US, Israel, and their allies.

In a separate development, the US military has confirmed the identities of six reserve soldiers who lost their lives in Kuwait due to an attack involving a drone at a US military facility in Port Shuaiba. President Trump and other high-ranking officials have expressed concerns that the ongoing conflict may lead to additional casualties among US military personnel.

While a White House spokeswoman refrained from directly addressing the reported Russian support to Iran, she highlighted the perceived weakening of the Iranian regime due to the ongoing hostilities. The spokeswoman emphasized the diminishing ballistic missile attacks by Iran, the weakening of its navy, destruction of production capabilities, and the dwindling resistance from its proxies.

The Kremlin acknowledged being engaged in discussions with representatives of Iran’s leadership but did not disclose specifics when questioned about potential assistance to Tehran by Moscow.

The conflict has inadvertently provided a boost to Russia’s economy, particularly in the oil and gas sector, as there has been a notable surge in demand for its resources. This economic upturn comes as a welcome relief for Russia, which has faced challenges in its exports due to sanctions related to its conflict in Ukraine. In a reciprocal move, the United States has reportedly shared intelligence information with Ukraine during its confrontation with Russia.

Requests for comments from the Russian Embassy in Washington and Russia’s mission to the United Nations in New York went unanswered at the time of reporting.
