Google has now made ‘Notebooks’ in the Gemini app accessible to users on the free tier, expanding beyond the initial launch for paid subscribers, as announced by the company. The new ‘Notebooks’ section can be found on gemini.google.com in the side panel. These Notebooks serve as dedicated spaces for projects where users can manage related chats and uploaded files like documents and PDFs. According to Google, any conversation within the Gemini app can be included in a notebook through the overflow menu.
The Notebooks feature is synced with Google’s NotebookLM application, ensuring that entries made in one tool are automatically reflected in the other. This integration allows users to utilize NotebookLM-specific functions, such as Video Overviews and Infographics, even if the notebook originated in Gemini.
As for source limits, free users can add up to 50 sources in each notebook. Google AI Plus subscribers have a quota of 100 sources, while Pro and Ultra tiers offer 300 and 600 sources, respectively. Users have the option to give custom instructions on tone and response format, and they can disable the ‘notebook memory’ setting if desired.
Google defined notebooks as “personal knowledge bases shared across Google products” and hinted at forthcoming additional features. Currently, the availability is restricted to the web version, with support for mobile and Mac apps anticipated in the “coming weeks.”
