Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC hosted a discussion session with renowned Islamic scholars at a local hotel in Dhaka to promote the adoption of Bangla QR in religious institutions with the aim of fostering a cashless economy.
During the event, Mohammad Mohibbullahil Baqee, the director general of the Islamic Foundation Bangladesh, graced the occasion as the chief guest. He highlighted the evolution of financial transactions in response to technological advancements and emphasized the importance of integrating religious institutions into modern digital payment systems like Bangla QR for transparent, secure, and efficient financial operations.
Mohibbullahil urged Islamic scholars and religious leaders to actively participate in advancing towards a cashless society and implementing contemporary digital transaction solutions in religious establishments.
Speaking as a special guest at the event, Mohammad Zahir Hussain, the executive director of Bangladesh Bank and the sole representative of the board of directors of Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC, emphasized the nation’s progression towards digitalization. He stressed the significance of expanding digital transactions to modernize and enhance the accessibility and inclusivity of the financial system in the country. Zahir highlighted that integrating Bangla QR into religious institutions would facilitate widespread participation in digital transactions.
Md Altaf Hossain, the acting Managing Director of Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC, chaired the program, while Shamsuddin Zia, the chairman of the shariah supervisory committee of the bank, Shah Muhammad Waliullah, a member of the Bangladesh Bank Shariah Supervisory Board, and Mohammad Zakir Hossain, an additional director of the Islami Banking Regulations and Policy Department of Bangladesh Bank, also delivered speeches during the event.
Additionally, Mohammed Jamal Uddin Mazumder and M Kamal Uddin Jasim, both additional managing directors of the bank, alongside members of the Shariah Supervisory Committee and senior executives, were in attendance at the gathering.
