A resurgence of fascist tendencies was highlighted by Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman, who expressed discontent over the denial of the people’s decision in the referendum. Speaking at the Jatiya Ganotantrik Party’s anniversary event, he vowed to resist and obstruct this trajectory.
Shafiqur Rahman prayed for Bangladesh to break free from what he referred to as “neo-fascism” and urged all citizens to unite in this cause. He criticized the parliament for failing to comprehend and honor the desires of the populace, emphasizing the need to return power to the people to uphold the referendum’s outcome.
In a veiled reference to the BNP, Shafiqur insinuated that those incapable of upholding democratic principles within their own party cannot be trusted to safeguard democracy and security for the nation. He emphasized that the people’s voice was disregarded despite a significant majority supporting the ‘Yes’ vote in the referendum.
Emphasizing his party’s unwavering support for the referendum result, Shafiqur reiterated their commitment to the ‘Yes’ outcome, underscoring that regardless of parliamentary acceptance, they will strive to implement the referendum’s decision for the benefit of all citizens.
