Meta Bolsters AI Capabilities with Assured Robot Intelligence Acquisition

Date:

Meta has acquired Assured Robot Intelligence, a startup specializing in training humanoid robots to predict and respond to human actions, according to various tech news sources. The financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

The entire team of the small company, including its two founders, will join Meta’s Superintelligence Labs, a unit dedicated to cutting-edge artificial intelligence research, TechCrunch reported. Previously, the team received initial funding from AIX Ventures, although the exact investment amount remains undisclosed.

The founders, Xiaolong Wang and Lerrel Pinto, bring extensive expertise in robotics. Wang has a background in chip design at Nvidia and academic experience at the University of California, San Diego, while Pinto held a faculty position at New York University and was involved in Fauna Robotics, a startup acquired by Amazon last month. Both have received recognition in the field for their work.

Meta indicated that the acquisition will enhance its capabilities in developing models for controlling full-body robots and self-supervised learning. The company has been working on humanoid technology for some time, with internal documents from 2025 outlining plans to create a consumer robot featuring custom hardware and intelligent software, as reported by TechCrunch.
