“US Ambassador Christensen Commits to Elevating Relationship with Bangladesh”

Date:

US Ambassador to Bangladesh, Brent Christensen, has expressed President Donald Trump’s strong commitment to elevating the relationship with Bangladesh. Christensen shared his optimism about the future of US-Bangladesh ties, highlighting the significant progress made in the first 100 days of his tenure.

A ‘historic trade agreement’ was recently signed between Bangladesh and the US, aimed at addressing the trade imbalance and fostering mutual prosperity. Christensen emphasized his continuous efforts to promote trade relations between US businesses and Bangladesh.

In addition to economic cooperation, the US and Bangladesh are collaborating on various fronts, including combating illegal migration and enhancing security in the Indo-Pacific region. A new health partnership has been established to tackle diseases like tuberculosis and measles in Bangladesh.

Christensen reiterated the US’s commitment as the largest donor supporting Bangladesh in hosting Rohingya refugees and pledged to advocate for a political resolution to the crisis. He highlighted the US’s prompt recognition of Bangladesh’s February election results and congratulated Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on assuming office.

Having presented his credentials to President Mohammed Shahabuddin in January, Christensen emphasized the longstanding partnership between the US and Bangladesh in promoting regional stability, economic growth, and national sovereignty. With more than two decades of experience in US policy towards Bangladesh and the region, Christensen looks forward to further strengthening the bond between the two nations.
