Chennai Super Kings announced on Saturday that Mahendra Singh Dhoni is anticipated to sit out the initial two weeks of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Dhoni, a renowned wicketkeeper-batsman who guided Chennai to five championships before stepping down as captain in 2024, has been solely active in the IPL since retiring from international cricket in 2020.
Having participated in all 14 fixtures for Chennai last season, the 44-year-old accumulated a total of 196 runs as the team concluded at the bottom of the rankings. “MS Dhoni is presently undergoing rehabilitation for a calf strain, which is likely to sideline him for the initial fortnight of the IPL,” stated Chennai in an official release.
Chennai, the victors of the IPL in 2023, are scheduled to kick off their campaign against the Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati on Monday. The IPL commences later on Saturday and is set to continue until May 31.
