Prime Minister Tarique Rahman awarded the Ekushey Padak 2026 to nine individuals and the band Warfez for their remarkable contributions to national life on Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day. The award ceremony took place at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital, where late rock legend Ayub Bachchu was posthumously honored. His wife, Ferdous Akhtar Chondona, accepted the prestigious civilian award on his behalf.
Chondona shared that the Prime Minister expressed his admiration for Ayub Bachchu’s music during a conversation after the ceremony. She described the event as extraordinary, emphasizing the enduring appreciation for Bachchu’s artistry at the highest levels. Chondona highlighted that the recognition not only celebrated Ayub Bachchu as an individual artist but also underscored the significance of Bangla band music in the country. She mentioned her desire to address the issue of artists’ copyright protection at the event to benefit the broader music community.
Reflecting on her late husband’s legacy, Chondona remarked that though Ayub Bachchu is no longer physically present, his music continues to resonate with audiences in Bangladesh and among Bengali-speaking communities globally. Following the award presentation, a statement was posted on the official Facebook page of “LRB,” the band founded by Ayub Bachchu, expressing gratitude for the state honor. The statement acknowledged the award as a tribute to Bachchu’s lifelong commitment to music, praising his courage, sincerity, and innovative contributions to Bangla rock, which enriched the country’s cultural landscape and established a unique identity on the global platform. The band also appreciated the government’s recognition, noting that honoring artists uplifts the music industry and inspires future generations.
