Hajj, a foundational tenet of Islam, represents a profound spiritual expedition desired by all Muslims. As the pilgrimage season commences, believers congregate in Makkah and Madina, propelled by their faith and dedication. Meticulous preparation is crucial to guarantee a seamless, respectful, and Shariah-compliant pilgrimage.
The coordination of Hajj is a collaborative effort between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia. While Bangladesh assists pilgrims, the overall process adheres to Saudi regulations, schedules, and structures.
The commencement of Hajj flights from Bangladesh took place on April 18, 2026, and will continue until May 21, 2026. The anticipated Hajj pilgrimage is set for around May 26, 2026, pending the sighting of the moon. This year, approximately 78,500 Bangladeshi pilgrims are projected to participate in the Hajj.
Medical Evaluation
Saudi Arabia mandates a medical assessment for all pilgrims. Individuals with severe medical conditions such as advanced heart, liver, or kidney ailments, ongoing cancer treatment, tuberculosis, significant mental health issues, high-risk pregnancies, or mobility and cognitive impairments are restricted from participating. Unfit pilgrims may face repatriation upon arrival.
Pre-Departure Requirements
Pilgrims must possess a valid Bangladeshi passport valid beyond November 30, 2026. The Hajj visa must be obtained through the e-Hajj portal or authorized agencies.
Hajj Camp Arrival and Check-In
Travelers from Dhaka must reach the Hajj camp at least six hours before departure, while those outside Dhaka must arrive a day in advance. Accommodations are provided at no cost, but meals are self-funded.
Baggage Regulations
Each pilgrim is allowed a total baggage weight of 46 kg (comprising two 23 kg bags) and a 7 kg cabin bag. Specific size restrictions apply to both checked and carry-on luggage. Checked luggage dimensions should not exceed 65 cm in length, 45 cm in width, and 25 cm in height, while cabin luggage should be no larger than 45 cm in length, 35 cm in width, and 20 cm in height.
Baggage Recommendations
It is advised to carry essential items like Ihram in the cabin bag. Pilgrims dependent on regular medication should pack at least a 50-day supply with official prescriptions. Luggage should be clearly labeled with personal and agency information. In case of lost luggage, promptly notify the Bangladesh Hajj offices or guides in Saudi Arabia.
Prohibited Items
Transporting intoxicants, tobacco products, zarda, gul, dried fish, jaggery, cooked food, or perishables is strictly forbidden and carries penalties.
Behavioral Guidelines in Saudi Arabia
Pilgrims must adhere to stringent regulations. The Makkah Route Initiative ensures baggage delivery to accommodations. Nusuk, Moallem, hotel, and PID cards should be carried at all times. Leaving lodging without a Nusuk card may result in detainment. Political activities, protests, solicitation, and misconduct are strictly prohibited.
Hajj Group and Rituals
Each group is led by a certified guide (1 per 46 pilgrims). Essential rituals at Mina, Arafah, Muzdalifah, and Jamarat must be performed within the group. Solo excursions are discouraged due to safety concerns.
Healthcare and Emergencies
Designated clinics in Makkah, Madina, and Jeddah, as well as Saudi government hospitals, provide free medical services. Lost pilgrims should contact the Bangladesh Hajj Mission or utilize the Labbaik app or emergency helpline.
Return Procedures
Pilgrims must ensure compliance with baggage weight restrictions. Zamzam water cannot be carried in personal luggage; each pilgrim will receive a 5-liter container upon arrival in Bangladesh.
Hajj epitomizes discipline, devotion, and unity. Adhering to all guidelines enables pilgrims to focus wholly on their spiritual journey.
