Ryan Roslansky has resigned as the CEO of LinkedIn after leading the professional networking platform for six years. Dan Shapero, the current chief operating officer, has assumed the CEO position with immediate effect.
Roslansky joined LinkedIn in 2009 as one of the earliest hires by then-CEO Jeff Weiner. He worked in various roles across the company for over a decade before becoming CEO in June 2020 during the labor market challenges of the pandemic. When he took over, LinkedIn had 700 million members and approximately $8 billion in annual revenue. Under his leadership, the platform grew to 1.3 billion members and generated over $17 billion in revenue. During this period, LinkedIn transformed from a job board and professional directory into a social network where executives share personal stories, career tips, and opinions, attracting both dedicated users and critics.
Apart from his role at LinkedIn, Roslansky also serves as the executive vice president at Microsoft, LinkedIn’s parent company following its acquisition in 2016. He mentioned in a post on the platform that his responsibilities within Microsoft are expanding, and Shapero will now report directly to him. This transition signifies a shift in operational leadership rather than a complete departure from the organization.
Shapero, who previously held the position of LinkedIn’s chief operating officer, now leads the platform during a time of uncertainty in the job market. The industry has seen a decrease of around 20% in hiring since 2022, and there are ongoing concerns about the impact of artificial intelligence on future employment prospects.
